What is in a UDI (2D Data Matrix)?

UDI stands for Universal Device Identifiers, which is a unique code used to standardise and adequately identify medical devices, through distribution and use.

At INKA™, we’ve implemented the UDI by etching the matrix on all our devices. It allows our customers to have easy tracking of devices for safety and asset management purposes.

Legal requirements for Manufacturers under Medical Device Directive (MDD) - mandatory on Risk Class I-Ir after 2026. Will contain:

  • (01) GTIN Global Trade Identification Number - globally unique part number

Through the GTIN number, information such as the below can be extracted.

  • Supplier / Brand Name
  • Supplier Part Numer
